Read MorePetroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC)'s Alberta Upstream Petroleum Research Fund (AUPRF), with support from industry partners, has compiled the following Industry R&D Survey, with the objective of identifying knowledge gaps and/or challenges that industry faces in the areas of Ecological, Remediation & Reclamation, and Well Abandonment. The data collected from this survey will be used to identify project and research opportunities, aid in the allocation of funds to areas of highest need, and support a Workshop focused on creating discussion and identifying methods of collaboration to close these knowledge gaps.

Read MoreStephanie DeRuiter was born and raised in Alberta, attended post-secondary at the University of Victoria, and currently works from her home in New Brunswick as an Intermediate Environmental Scientist for Story Environmental Inc., an environmental consulting company in northern Ontario. She is an environmental scientist and GIS Technician with over 6 years of experience in environmental consulting. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Victoria where she held student positions with Parks Canada and the University of Victoria Herbarium. Her more recent experience includes environmental monitoring, permitting, regulatory report, and project management. She is involved with several historical mine rehabilitation projects and is looking forward to learning new ways to reclaim historical landscapes through her involvement with CLRA.

This presentation will discuss how geophysical methods are used to map the shallow sub-surface and, thus be a very cost-effective tool for Environmental Site Assessments. Some of the advantages of geophysical methods as a part of a site investigation include the relatively low cost, non-intrusiveness, and collection of real-time data. Methods include Electromagnetics (EM), Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Magnetics, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and downhole borehole logging.
