Call for proposals


The Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Land Reclamation Association (CLRA) is pleased to sponsor a student poster session at 2025 CLRA National and Alberta Conference and AGM Meetings. 

Call for Posters: 

The CLRA Student Poster Committee invites submission of abstracts for posters that outline creative and innovative student submissions in the fields of environmental science or studies related to the CLRA Vision and Mission statements and the conference broad theme of Canadian Reclamation – Growing since 1975.  Posters will provide participants with a forum to present and discuss their posters while meeting participants at the CLRA conference.

This poster session is a value-added feature with a prominent focus on student participation at the CLRA conference.  All student posters are welcomed as a vital contribution to the conference program. All accepted submissions will be highlighted throughout the conference and featured in a student poster room.

Student Poster Session Objectives:  

  1. Get conference attendees interested in your environmental science or studies, program, experiences and/or research. 

  2. Convey an advocacy for the CLRA Vision and Mission statements. 

  3. Receive feedback to further expand your educational journey and/or improve, expand research work. 

  4. Network – find future collaborators, advisors and/or job opportunities. 

Poster Content to be included:  

Submissions are required to provide a poster title, author(s) information and any affiliations. Title should briefly convey an interest in the issue and/or education program selected: 

  • Introduction – Information about post-secondary institution and educational program  

  • Conclusion 

  • References and Acknowledgements 

  • Contact Information 

Poster considerations and/or content: 

  • Why did you decide to pursue a career as an environmental specialist? 

  • What has been the most important thing learned during time spent in a chosen program? 

  • What are the long-term goals in the chosen environmental field? 

  • What is the most rewarding experience completed? 

  • Why is the job of an environmental specialist important? 

  • How is innovation and creativity incorporated into your program of study?  What does this mean for you? 

  • What does the future of environmental work look like? Artificial intelligence, social aspect, Indigenous relations/knowledge?  

  • How presenters can help protect the environment through the course of their studies, research and/or work.  

  • Incorporation of essential environmental terms, relevant laws and regulations designed to protect the environment 

  • Perspective of what “environment” means to the presenter; what is the presenter trying to convey?

Judging

Judges will base their assessment on the following criteria (criteria being equally weighted): 

  • Quality of the meeting CLRA mandate and outlined content (clarity in delivery and understanding, discussion content, furthering program perspectives) 

  • Excellence through Program of Study (demonstrated understanding/connection to reclamation/remediation, potential for application and the unfolding future) 

  • Quality of Abstract and Content (coherence, logical flow, grammar, spelling, concise abstract, poster appearance) 

  • Demonstrated Understanding of the Student (recognition of limits of the program and/or study, familiar with program and/or research context, welcoming and engaging). 

  • Special Merit marks will be awarded for innovative, novel approaches and/or research projects. 

It is important to note that the poster stands on its own and does not require additional verbal explanation. Posters will be judged with students in attendance (mandatory) by three judges at appointed times during the conference.  Each poster presenter will have four minutes of presentation and one minute for questions.  These timelines may vary at the discretion of the judges. 

Two selected student poster presenter winners will be receiving $1000 each at the conference closing session and will be provided the opportunity to meet with prospective employers and industry leaders in engaging dialogue which may include current/future resume reviews, mentoring invitations, personal development for career success, preparing for long-term career goals, and skills/certification recommendations to accelerate career growth. 

Poster session winners will be announced during the conference closing session and all poster candidates are expected to attend. Awards will be presented by a CLRA board member and/or designate at which time photographs will be taken. To be considered for the competition, you must submit an abstract to the general web link here noting the presentation format for posters, by Feb 1, 2025.  Late submissions will not be considered.
